About Us
iThemba Kuluntu, a registered non-profit organization based along the Wild Coast – Pondoland, South Africa, is dedicated to
empowering vulnerable Mpondo communities. Our name, meaning "Hope for Communities" in Xhosa, reflects our mission to create
systemic solutions that address poverty and inequality. As a community-based NPO, our initiatives are developed and carried out in
partnership with the very people we serve, ensuring that our work is done with, not just for, the community.
What began as small acts of compassion has grown into a collaborative effort focused on sustainable development, disaster relief,
and human rights advocacy. Together, we are tackling the systemic oppression faced by these communities, driving long-term
change for future generations. Our work is a testament to the power of collaboration, respect, and shared vision, striving to uplift
those in need through strategic, heartfelt efforts.
At iThemba Kuluntu NPO, we are dedicated to empowering rural communities in the Pondoland region of South Africa
through sustainable and systemic solutions. Our mission is to address the most pressing challenges faced by these
communities and work collaboratively to create lasting change.
We focus on key areas of development, including:
Our mission
Education
Building and operating an Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Youth Center to provide children and young people with
opportunities for a brighter future.
Food Security
Running soup kitchens and distributing food parcels to vulnerable families to combat hunger and malnutrition.
Water Access & Safety
Implementing an innovative water filtration system (Pure Flow Amanzi) to ensure thousands of people have access to safe drinking water.
In addition to these focus areas, we are actively running initiatives such as:
Community Training Garden
To enhance long-term food
security.
Boreholes
To improve water access in remote regions.
Human Rights Advocacy
Promoting awareness of basic
human rights.
Disaster Relief
Emergency aid programs for crisis situations.
Support for People
with Disabilities
Our approach is built on close collaboration with the communities we serve. By working from within and alongside local
members, including community representatives in leadership roles, we ensure that our projects reflect the true needs and
aspirations of the people.
We believe that meaningful change is only possible through long-term partnerships and a holistic vision. Together, with
the resilience and strength of the communities we support, we strive to build a future where hope and opportunity thrive.
Together, we can plant seeds of hope, transform lives,
and create a future full of opportunities.
Who do we support
iThemba Kuluntu focuses on aiding families in severe distress across 13 villages, lacking access to essentials like clean water,
sufficient and nutritious food, basic sanitation, secure housing, quality education and medical services. Our support targets those
facing extreme poverty, malnutrition, and reliance on social grants, prioritizing female-led, single-parent and child-headed
households among the most vulnerable rural communities.
Currently, we assist over 500 families, totaling thousands of individuals, including a significant number of children, across Cwebeni,
Hlamvana, Bholani, Dumasi, Vukandlule, Scambeni, Caguba, Mahenge, Sihlanjeni, Maplotini, SijunqwiniI, Ludume, Manxiwen.
"Giving enriches the soul, brightening both the
giver's path and the receiver's spirit."
