About us
Registered as a non-profit organization, iThemba Kuluntu is a beacon of hope along the Wild Coast - Pondoland in South Africa, committed to empowering the vulnerable Mpondo communities. Inspired by our name, which translates to "Hope for Communities" in Xhosa, we are dedicated to driving positive, sustainable change and providing a voice for those marginalized by systemic oppression. Our engagement spans across multiple communities, focusing on alleviating the challenges brought on by poverty, unemployment, and historical injustices.
Born from a partnership with the very people we aim to support, iThemba Kuluntu has evolved from simple acts of kindness into a robust organization committed to community development, disaster relief, and human rights advocacy. Our work is a testament to the power of collaboration, respect, and shared vision, striving to uplift those in need through strategic, heartfelt efforts.
Our mission
At iThemba Kuluntu, we are dedicated to meeting the fundamental needs of Pondoland's communities through immediate relief efforts and sustainable, long-term initiatives. Our mission goes beyond assistance; we aim to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary for self-advocacy and the creation of a thriving future. By embracing a holistic approach, we strive to catalyze positive change, fostering resilience, hope, and self-sufficiency among those we serve.
Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is an act of justice. It is the protection of a fundamental human right, the right to dignity and a decent life.
- Nelson Mandela, Feb 2005
Together with you
Who do we
Support
iThemba Kuluntu focuses on aiding families in severe distress across six villages, lacking access to essentials like clean water, sanitation, secure housing, and medical services. Our support targets those facing extreme poverty, malnutrition, and reliance on social grants, prioritizing female-led, single-parent and child-headed households among the most vulnerable rural communities.
Currently, we assist over 500 families, totaling thousands of individuals, including a significant number of children, across Cwebeni, Hlamvana, Bholani, Dumasi, Vukandlule, and Scambeni.
